A Barrel of Monkeys: Archiving a Mailchimp Newsletter

Email newsletters are something that we would often prefer to unsubscribe from rather than keep in our inboxes. However, this format continues to be popular with many individuals and organizations and can contain valuable information to preserve in the historical record. Looking at a format that could be framed as a document, web-object, or email, this presentation will focus on a case study of preserving a newsletter created with Mailchimp at the wind-down of a group’s activities due to budget constraints and shifting priorities. It presents the methods and challenges of archiving these records as a set at the end of their publication and the opportunities of working with content creators to ensure their content is preserved during a time of rapid transition.
